This recipe makes
4-5 loaves.
INGREDIENTS |
3 tbsp yeast
1 tsp sugar

1/2 cup water
2 cups scalded milk, cooled
1/2 lb melted butter
10 yolks and 2 whole eggs, well-beaten

1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
grated rind of 1 lemon
1 orange, juice of
1 tsp vanilla (optional)
9-10 cups flour
1 cup raisins
|
- Combine yeast and sugar in water. Let stand for 10 minutes.
- Add yeast to the remaining ingredients, adding flour and raisins last to make very
soft dough.
- Let rise. When doubled in bulk, punch down and let rise again.
- Put in greased pans (let rise). Bake at 325° F for 3/4 - 1 hour, depends
on size of pans.
