Traditional Ukrainian Recipes

Here I have listed a few popular Ukrainian recipes. There are as many variations of these recipes as there are Ukrainians, :) but it's a great starting point for your own culinary experimentations.

Breads and Sweets:
• paska
- the special decorated bread Ukrainians make at Easter.

• babka
- another special Easter-time bread.

• poppy seed roll and filling
- poppies and bread - two symbols of Ukraine - in one recipe

- "Sweet Nothings", a nice desert.

Soups:
• borscht
- the famous beet soup.

• cabbage and kielbasa soup
- two Ukrainian favorites in one soup

• kartoplyanka (potato soup)
- a country style potato soup

• krupnyk (barley soup)
- a hearty barley soup

Veggies, Eggs and Cheese:
• pirohy (perogies)
- the very popular potato and cheese dumpling

• Baba's old style sauerkraut
- the Horechuk family recipe for sauerkraut.

• pidpenyok - mushrooms with sour cream
- a popular recipe for mushrooms
